Chapter One:  The Sacraments of Christian Initiation

1212  The sacraments of Christian initiation—Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist—lay the foundations of every Christian life. "The sharing in the divine nature given to men through the grace of Christ bears a certain likeness to the origin, development, and nourishing of natural life. The faithful are born anew by Baptism, strengthened by the sacrament of Confirmation, and receive in the Eucharist the food of eternal life. By means of these sacraments of Christian initiation, they thus receive in increasing measure the treasures of the divine life and advance toward the perfection of charity."³

Baptism V  Presenting a child to receive the Sacrament of Baptism is a serious obligation on the part of the parents/guardians and requires a faith commitment.  Parents/guardians a child under the age of 6 who desire to have their child Baptized at St. Faustina should be active, practicing Catholics in good standing, who have registered with our parish and are using the envelope system for at least 4 months prior to scheduling the date for the child's Baptism.  At least one godparent must also be an active, practicing Catholic in good standing.  Preparation includes classes for the parents/ guardians, as they will be the primary transmitters of faith to the child.  Please contact the office to register for a Baptismal Preparation class.   

Confirmation V  From a Religious Education standpoint, students in the seventh (7th) and eighth (8th) grades are considered to be in "Confirmation" grades at St. Faustina.  During the Confirmation preparation year, in addition to participating in Religious Education, students are required to complete service hours and participate in sessions relating to the celebration of the sacrament as well as a retreat.  Registration for this sacrament takes place through the Office of Religious Education.

Eucharist V  Second (2^nd) grade is the traditional time of preparation and celebration of First Reconciliation and First Holy Eucharist at St. Faustina.  Student participation in Religious Education and family (parent/guardian & child together) participation in sacramental catechesis is required.
